Rhinoplasty Can Be Cosmetic, Functional, or Both

Many patients choose rhinoplasty for cosmetic reasons, but a change in appearance isn’t the only reason to consider nasal surgery. Functional rhinoplasty can be life changing for patients with breathing obstructions. If you experience any of the following symptoms, come see us to determine if you could benefit from functional rhinoplasty.

  • Frequent headaches
  • Bad breath
  • Nosebleeds
  • Recurrent sinus infections
  • Dry mouth
  • Noisy breathing

Functional rhinoplasty can be performed on its own or paired with a cosmetic rhinoplasty. Dr. Epstein focuses on functional for all his rhinoplasty patients, maximizing breathing and paying careful attention to the airway to reduce the likelihood of future breathing problems.

It Can Take a Year or More to See Your Final Rhinoplasty Results

It takes time to fully recover from rhinoplasty. You’ll be back to your regular activities just a few weeks after surgery, but you may need to wait a year a more for all the rhinoplasty swelling to resolve. Don’t worry, no one else will notice the swelling after a few weeks, but it does take time and patience to achieve your ideal nose.

Choose Your Rhinoplasty Surgeon Carefully

Any surgeon can perform rhinoplasty, but we recommend choosing carefully. Rhinoplasty is a very detailed and delicate procedure. If it isn’t done properly, you can experience lasting damage to the nose and lifelong breathing problems. Work with a plastic surgeon that specializes in rhinoplasty. Dr. Epstein is a member of The Rhinoplasty Society and has experience with cosmetic rhinoplasty, functional rhinoplasty, ethnic rhinoplasty, and teenage rhinoplasty. Take Your Time Before Returning to Work After Rhinoplasty

Most patients feel much better just a few days after rhinoplasty. Give yourself time to heal and recover before rushing back to work. We recommend waiting about 10 days after surgery. At this time, we’ll have removed your splint and swelling and bruising should be significantly less than right after surgery. Avoid strenuous activities and exercise for at least 3-4 weeks and until you’ve been cleared by your surgeon.

There Is No Perfect Nose

What does the perfect nose look like? The secret to the perfect nose is to find one that you love. We can remove humps and bumps, straighten up asymmetry, resize the nostrils, and more. We’ll work with you to address areas of concern so you love your nose. We even use computer imaging during the consultation to help you visualize your new nose before surgery.
