Liposuction: The Solution for Many Parts of the Face and Body

For many years, plastic surgeons have turned to liposuction to reduce fat and smooth out their patients’ stomachs, buttocks, hips and thighs. But, what many people may not realize is that liposuction is also being safely used for other parts of the face and body including the jawline, the upper arms, the lower legs, the ankles, men’s chests and women’s breasts. Below is a closer look at each.

Jawline

I’ve seen excellent results with liposuction on the jawline and with the sagging skin that creates a double chin. Liposuction is a safe and easy way to remove the fat and help sculpt this area. Depending on how much fat there is and depending on what the quality of the skin is like, liposuction may be combined with a facelift or one of our latest non-invasive skin tightening treatments to provide optimal results.

Arms and Legs

The upper arm area can also have excess fatty tissue that is easily removed through liposuction to provide more youthful, firmer-looking arms. Upper arm “wing flaps” can be a sign of aging or larger fluctuations in weight, both of which can make the skin less elastic.  In these cases, liposuction is often combined with direct excision of skin or skin tightening devices to obtain the best overall contour.

Fatty deposits can also collect around the lower leg and ankle area.  As a result, many women are reluctant to wear shorts or skirts because they are self-conscious about the transition area from leg to ankle.   Fortunately skin elasticity is rarely a problem on legs so this is an area of the body in which we can beautifully reshape the lower legs and ankles making the legs look slimmer and shapelier.

Torso and Back

For women especially, excess fat can collect around the middle back to create an uncomfortable “bra bulge.” Men are also concerned about this area, specifically around and below the ribs. Body contouring with liposuction easily removes this extra fat for a sleeker, smoother line.

Men’s Chest Area

No matter how hard a man may exercise, he may still have “man boobs,” technically known as gynecomastia.

It can be found in younger men and teens and can wreak havoc on them psychologically.  In many cases liposuction, alone, has been quite successful on this part of the body to reduce the fat and create a firmer looking, manlier chest.

The Breasts

For women who may not be bothered by their sagging breasts, but who are more concerned with the breasts’ size and weight, liposuction can also be an option.  In addition to reducing the size of the breasts, liposuction has also been found to help correct the problem of uneven breasts. The beauty of this procedure is that the incisions are much smaller than a surgical breast reduction, and for those with slightly oversized breasts, liposuction can accomplish the patient’s reduction goals.
