Why Younger People Can Benefit from Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, also known as cosmetic eyelid surgery, is commonly used to reverse aging around the eyes. That isn’t all this versatile procedure can do. Many of our younger patients also benefit from blepharoplasty, not to reverse aging, but to remedy cosmetic concerns. If you have puffy bags under the eyes or drooping eyelids, age-related or otherwise, come see us and explore our eyelid lift procedure.

What Can Blepharoplasty Treat?

Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that focuses on the eyelids. It is known by many other names including eyelid surgery and eyelid lift. It improves the appearance of the upper or lower eyelids and is often performed on both eyelids together.

An eyelid lift can correct:

  • Sagging eyelids (ptosis)
  • Fatty pouches or bags underneath the eyes
  • Excess skin on the upper or lower eyelids

Sagging around the eyes is often mistaken for a tired or angry facial expression. Blepharoplasty restores a more rested, youthful look. It can even make the eyes appear larger by lifting sagging tissues out of the eyes. Blepharoplasty patients often report an improvement in their vision after surgery, as loose skin is no longer obstructing vision.

The Benefits of Blepharoplasty as a Younger Patient

Youth offers many benefits during plastic surgery. Our younger patients often enjoy:

  • Faster recovery
  • Tight, elastic skin that contracts easily after surgery
  • Improved skin tone

If you can benefit from blepharoplasty now, why wait? A subtle correction performed early on has the potential to yield decades of results, potentially averting a more invasive procedure later.

Special Considerations for Younger Blepharoplasty Patients

Aging is the primary reason for blepharoplasty amongst our older patients. Our younger eyelid surgery patients often have genetic concerns. Blepharoplasty can be performed at any age. Our youngest eyelid lift patients are usually in their 20s.

Our younger blepharoplasty patients often come in due to genetic bags under the eyes. They are predisposed to larger, puffy fat bags under the eyes. Blepharoplasty can correct these unwanted fat pockets through fat repositioning and removal. In younger patients, it is important to be very conservative with fat removal. Extracting too much fat from under the eyes can significantly age the eye area.

Hooded upper eyelids are also treated with blepharoplasty. Hooded lids are fairly common, and occur when excess skin obscures the eyelid’s crease. In extreme cases, hooded eyelids can obstruct vision. Hooded eyelids that are blocking vision should be treated quickly, regardless of age to restore and improve vision.

Age Is Only a Number, Treat Symptoms Instead

Am I too young for eyelid surgery? Age should never be the deciding factor in choosing plastic surgery. Aging progresses at different speeds for different patients. Lifestyle, environment, and genetics all affect the aging process. At MAE Plastic Surgery we treat the signs of aging whenever they occur, on patients young and old. By focusing on the signs and symptoms of aging, not merely a patient’s age, we can provide more personalized care and achieve better results for our patients.
