Your Guide to Breast Augmentation Recovery in the Summer

Breast augmentation can be performed at any time during the year, but each season does bring a few unique considerations into the recovery process. If you’re planning a summertime breast augmentation, this guide will help you prepare. Call our offices to schedule your breast augmentation consultation.

Get Bikini Ready

Many women opt for breast augmentation during the fall or winter so they can enjoy their new breasts come summer without any restrictions. If you opt for breast augmentation during the summer, you’ll have to stay out of the sun and the water for a bit of time afterward.  The sooner you get a breast augmentation, the more you’ll be able to enjoy the tail end of summer at the beach or the pool.  Even if you aren’t having fun in the sun, you’ll still enjoy having a fuller chest in shirts and dresses for lounging during the day or going out at night.  Plus, you will look amazing this fall, winter, and beyond.

If you get surgery now, you may be able to unveil your new breasts in a swimsuit before summer ends. Most women are fully recovered in about 6 weeks. Your breast size will continue to change as your implants settle, but you’ll look great in the right swimsuit.

Stay Out of the Sun

Sun and scars don’t mix. Your incisions will be more sensitive to sun exposure until they’ve fully healed. Keep your incisions out of the sun while they are still pink. Too much sun, too soon can cause hyperpigmentation on the skin and can cause scars to become darker and discolored. If you’re getting breast augmentation this summer, plan on spending more time indoors and use sun protection, including sunscreen and layered clothing, every time you go outside.

No Swimming for You

Summer means pools, oceans, lakes, and spas, but not right after breast augmentation. You’ll need to avoid large bodies of water for about 4-6 weeks after surgery. Showering is okay, but pools, lakes, oceans, etc. can harbor bacteria and lead to infection. Plan on a dry, restful summer this year.
