Lipedema is a chronic and progressive condition that displays as a symmetric buildup of painful fat and swelling in the limbs, sparing the hands and feet. This condition appears to occur almost exclusively in women.
When it comes to treating Lipedema, many of our patients will start with more non-invasive treatment techniques (for example, different compression garments to help with the swelling of the affected areas). Others will try diet modification partnered with copious amounts of exercise.
Our patients are thrilled with the results liposuction is able to provide them. For many, liposuction has been the only relief for this condition. Dr. Krochmal uses traditional tumescent liposuction, power-assisted liposuction, and radiofrequency-assisted liposuction to treat the areas based on the results desired. he feels that aggressive treatment of the fat is necessary, and therefore “gentle lipo”, “water lipo”, and the made-up term “lymph-sparing lipo” aren’t as effective in his hands.

Dr. Krochmal has been able to get large amounts of fat out of patients giving them mobility they haven’t experienced in years. He believes in performing “large volume liposuction” in single sessions to treat the area, instead of performing multiple “small volume liposuction” procedures. His approach minimizes the number of surgeries and the downtime for patients. Additionally, because he doesn’t have to work through scar tissue created from prior operations, the results are typically better. He does all of this with your safety in mind, having received specialized training in large volume liposuction as part of his advanced aesthetic fellowship.
