What are pectoral implants?
Pectoral implants are made of a solid, yet soft, silicone material and are placed below the pectoral muscles of the chest in order to provide a more muscular appearance. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes and give a natural look for those who choose them.
How are pectoral implants inserted?
Sedation anesthesia will be administered, and once it takes effect, a small incision is made in the armpit and/or in the chest area. Using a surgical tube known as an endoscope, the implant is maneuvered into position underneath each one of the pectoral muscles. The results will be examined to ensure they are proportionate, and then the incision is closed with sutures. After being monitored in the recovery room, the patient can normally return home.
What can be expected after having pectoral implants?
In the area where the incisions were made, some pain and swelling may be present for a few days afterwards. Patients may also be restricted from performing heavy lifting for a period of two to six weeks after surgery. There may be light bruising and tenderness shortly after this operation, but this discomfort is usually rather mild.
Are there any risks associated with having pectoral implants?
Bleeding is possible as a result of this surgery. The implants may shift over time, thereby causing an uneven appearance and hardened tissue may eventually form around the implant.
