About 75% of nose surgeries are performed on women and girls. It’s actually been one of the most common plastic surgery procedures for many years. The nose just happens to be one of those features that you want to be in harmony with the rest of your face. You don’t want it to call attention to itself. Therefore, if it’s out of proportion, it can make a drastic difference in your appearance.
A woman’s nose tends to be narrower and more delicate, so female rhinoplasty is specific in that it requires a surgeon who understands female facial anatomy and can produce results that are feminine and appropriate for your face.
Rhinoplasty can address both cosmetic issues as well as functional issues. If you have breathing problems, Dr. Epstein can often correct these at the same time as he improves the appearance of your nose.
In some cases, a closed rhinoplasty technique can be used, which does not leave a scar on the outside at all. When an open technique must be used, the incision is made along the underside of the columella, the skin that separates the nostrils. Since the scar is on the bottom of the nose and will fade over time, it is not easily noticeable. Please review our general rhinoplasty page for more detailed information about how the surgery is performed. The procedure is usually done using a local anesthetic and deep sedation, and you will be continuously monitored by a board-certified anesthesiologist in an accredited office-based surgical facility.
Why do women seek rhinoplasty?
Women seek nose surgery mainly because they are not happy with the overall appearance of their nose. Perhaps their nose is too large–either too long or too wide, perhaps there’s a bit of a hump, it’s crooked, or is asymmetrical. Sometimes, those who have suffered a broken nose may experience breathing and/or aesthetic issues. In most cases, all of these are typical reasons that can be addressed by a rhinoplasty performed by a qualified and skilled plastic surgeon.
Computer digital imaging – your ideal nose!
As part of your Chicago female rhinoplasty consultation, Dr. Epstein uses an advanced computer-imaging software program to help you visualize the potential surgical outcome. After speaking with you to gain a better understanding of your goals and expectations, Dr. Epstein will take several pictures of your nose from different angles, upload them onto a computer, and work with the software to help visualize what he will need to do for your procedure. Additionally, a 3D image can be taken for the purpose of digital imaging. Together, these images will help explain why and how the procedure is performed.
It is important to remember that manipulated rhinoplasty photos through digital imaging do not guarantee those specific results, but they will ensure that you and Dr. Epstein share a common surgical goal and that the expectations are realistic.
After the imaging is complete and you are happy with the outcome, Dr. Epstein will upload the images to a private password-protected program called TouchMD. This will allow you (and your family members, if you choose) to review the information given at the consult from home. In the majority of cases, patients have found that their actual rhinoplasty results are very close to the digital images that the surgeon produced.
