BOTOX® Approved for Smile Lines Around the Eyes

BOTOX® Cosmetic has been approved since 2002 for softening the frown lines between the eyebrow. Since that time, BOTOX® injections have become the most common non-surgical plastic surgery treatment. The results are so popular that our practice has three trained nurses who focus on injectable treatments such as BOTOX®.

Last week, the FDA approved BOTOX® for treating the smile lines around the eyes (sometimes called “crow’s feet”). By injecting BOTOX® in this area, the muscles that cause active wrinkles and lines are weakened, resulting in smoother skin with smiling and talking.

Since BOTOX® was already approved for one use, physicians can use it for other “off-label” uses. However, this new approval confirms that BOTOX® is effective in improving the smile lines. In our practice, we also use BOTOX® off-label to improve forehead lines, droopy eyebrows, lip lines, frowning lips and “gummy” smiles.

As an alternative to BOTOX®, we are also experienced with Dysport and Xeomin®, which are slightly different formulations of the active ingredient in BOTOX®. A consultation with one of our plastic surgeons or skilled nurse injectors can help determine if BOTOX® or another non-surgical treatment is right for you.
